Your Favorite Teenage Beauty Products: Then and Now

Your first beauty kit (aka your Caboodle) was packed full of colorful cosmetics that set you on the path to becoming a beauty connoisseur. Whether you idolized the ladies of Saved By The Bell or modeled your look after Zenon, many of your teenage staples have survived today either in their original form or as a new product that carries with it the memories of the past. Allow us to take you on a sparkly, glossy, journey back to your teenage years.

1. Roll-on Glitter

Body Glitter

Our teenage philosophy—the more glitter the better. And no glitter applicator was more convenient than a roll-on. We’ve moved on from our full body shimmer days but NYX Roll On Eye Shimmer has brought it back to the market in a modern way. This glitter can be used on the eyes, face, and body and comes in every color of the rainbow.
2. Sun In Hair Lightener

Sun In

Sun-In is a major upgrade from your grandma’s lemon juice trick, but this “lemon fresh” scented spray was a precursor to at-home highlights and other hair coloring processes. Everyone used Sun In Hair Lightener before being out in the sun to get effortlessly blond hair that would rival the casts of The O.C. and The Hills. This spray is still available in the same formula, but with a slightly updated bottle.
3. Lip Smacker

Lip Smackers

Why carry around a boring lip balm when you could have a colorful and yummy tasting Lip Smacker? These lip balms (and their glossy counterparts) were a set you had to have in your teenage beauty kit. Whether you were a fan of the classic flavors or the limited editions, one of these tubes was always in reach. Today, this line has a new, more refined appearance but the same great flavors. Pick one up at your local drugstore for a #tbt experience.

4. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Since 1971, Maybelline has been making Great Lash Mascara and beauty routines around the world have been shaped by it’s pink and green tube. For many of us, our first mascara was Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascaraand we felt so mature for having something—even if it was glorified gel—to coat our lashes. Throughout its 45 year history, Great Lash has undergone a few packaging changes but its influence is undeniable.

5. Lip Gloss

Lancome Lip Gloss

No look was complete without a super glossy lip. The Lancôme Juicy Tube is the classic product for shiny, tacky lips coated in a sheer tint. Today, Lancôme has reinvented the lip gloss with the Lancome Juicy Shaker—a new take on lip gloss. Rather than a sticky applicator, this gloss is held in a “shaker” that mixes essential oils and pigment for a glossy lip without the traditional tackiness.
