The 1990’s were a glorious decade of scrunchies, milk pens, and iconic sitcoms such as Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It was also an era of questionable beauty choices: chunky highlights, blue eye-shadow, and body glitter dominated the scene. Fortunately, not all of these trends have made a comeback. But, some favorite ’90’s products have been reinvented with a modern twist.
Brands have been re-releasing old favorites, improving old formulas, and creating new products inspired by past favorites. These products have made their way back to the mainstream market, check them out:
1. Classic Bath & Body Works Scents
For a limited time, Bath and Body Works is bringing back eight throwback scents that will remind you of your youth. This is the second year the brand has done a #FlashbackFragrance and this time around they’ll be reviving old favorites including Cucumber Melon, Country Apple, Brown Sugar and Fig, Mango Mandarin, Sun-Ripened Raspberry, Peony, Freesia, and Cotton Blossom. The scents will be available in a fragrance mist ($14), shea body cream ($13), body lotion ($12.50) and shower gel ($12.50). They will only be available between June 6 and July 3, so make sure you stock up on this past favorites before they’re gone!
2. Unisex Fragrance From Calvin Klein
In 1994, Calvin Klein released CkOne. CkOne was the first unisex fragrance to appeal to a mass audience and featured a fresh-faced Kate Moss in the ad campaign. In February, Calvin Klein released ck2, a new take on a unisex fragrance. The new scent has an urban, woody, fresh blend—including notes of wasabi, mandarin, and “wet cobblestones.” This fragrance is a hit with people of all ages and genders, and is definitely a throwback to the 90s!
3. Mood Changing Makeup
Remember your mood rings and nail polish that changed colors whether you were happy, sad, or angry (or just hot or cold)? Well, your mood changing products are about to have a massive, 21st-century upgrade with M.A.C. Tendertalk Lip Balms. These “smart lip conditioners” will create a personalized lip tint based on your body chemistry to give you a little color and a lot of moisture. The balms will come in six shades that may appear deeper, lighter, brighter or muted depending on your lip chemistry at the time. They will be available online beginning June 2nd and in stores June 9th for $20 each.
4. Illuminating Pearls
Originally launched in 1987, women throughout the 90’s loved Guerlain Météorites Pearls. They were the pioneer of color-correcting makeup and used multi-colored loose pears that you’d blend together enhance any skin tone. Today, the formula has remained virtually unchanged. The original pearls are still available, and new pearls have joined the ranks including Perles De Blush, Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer, and Powder For The Face And Decollete.
5. Lip Gloss
Ever cool girl in the 90’s had a plethora of lip glosses. These sticky and sparkly glosses were essential to the perfect pout. The Lancôme Juicy Tubes Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss has evolved from all its ’90s glory and transformed into the brand new Lancome Juicy Shaker. This new gloss is available now and has a watery, un-goopy formula that uses an oil-based formula to give lips a non-sticky shine.
